Caution Signs...A Wacky Sign Game

Caution Signs is a party game for 3 to 9 players that has you drawing various pictures based on a descriptor and subject card that you are dealt and then one of the players at the table will try and guess what has been drawn.

We came across this new game when attending UK Games Expo earlier this year and received a demo from the publisher. We initially tried the game as my wife was interested in what this party game had to offer.

First Impressions

Upon approaching the stand the box stood out against the other products on the stand with its different style and pale blue box with the yellow caution sign art in the centre contrasting nicely. The components were well made with good quality card stock used for the cards, the whiteboard were nice and sturdy as well as the whiteboard markers being nice to hold.

Game Play Overview

The game is simple in its nature you will be drawing wacky caution signs that someone will try and guess to score points and the person with the most points at the end wins the game.

The game is played over as many rounds as there are players and each round starts with one person being the guesser and the others are the sketchers. Each sketcher is dealt one card from the descriptor and subject decks and then a 20 second timer is set so each player can draw what is depicted on their cards. At the end 20 seconds the sketchers put down there boards and pens and place all the cards dealt to them in a face down stack in the centre of the table. Two extra cards are drawn from each of the decks and then the stack of cards is shuffled together and then placed out one by one face up on the table. The guesser now has to guess which two cards go with each drawing the sketchers have done. You then calculate points for each guess and record it on the scoreboard. If only one of the cards is correctly guessed the guesser gets 0 points while the sketcher get 1, if both cards are guessed correctly the guesser gets 1 point and the sketcher gets 2. Once scoring has been done you will then set up for a new round with another player having the opportunity to be the guesser. Once everyone has had a chance to be the guesser you then total up the points and the player with the most points wins.

Pros and Cons

There was many elements in this game that I enjoyed such as how well it scales with different player counts, the variability in the cards offering replayability and the quality of the whiteboards and pens. The game play is something that is tried and tested in many games and the simple nature of the game doesn't make it appeal that well for a hobby gamer. On the flip side of this, due to its simple nature to learn it has been a game I have been able to get to the table more often with a wider audience as there is a reduced barrier to entry and has been a hit when playing with friends and family.

Final Verdict

Overall, I enjoy what this game has to offer. It is fun, quick to teach and fast to play with each round being around two minutes long. I would not recommend this for a hobby gamer looking for the next game to play on their board game night with fellow hobbyists though I would 100% recommend this for playing a fun game with a mixed ability group. Due to this it is one of my top recommendation for people to play with friends and family as we approach the season of family get togethers.

In conclusion, we would rate this game a 8.4/10 You can find a how to play video and get your own copy of the game at:
