Spooktacular Top 5 Games

With Halloween just around the corner I thought I would share with you my top 5 board games that I like to play during the spooky season.

The selection of games we are looking at

Every Halloween me and my wife will decorate the house to celebrate the spooky season and dress up as some of our favourite characters ready to answer the door to the local trick or treaters while listening to our Halloween playlist. Though the best part about this night of the year is that I can get some of my favourite creepy games to the table again.

No. 5 Frankenstein's Bodies

This one is a still a firm favourite of ours after having it for many years. In the game you are trying to create your very own Frankenstein's monster by harvesting body parts for your creation by collecting them, stealing them and digging them out of the refuse pile to try and make the most complete reanimated human. This game really does bring body building to a new level and also offers a variety of ways to add to the depth to the game such as the infection and disinfection rules where you have to treat the body parts you are harvesting.

No.4 Wednesday: Creatures and Outcasts

A new title has swung in and stolen my number 4 space this year and that is the small card game Wednesday: Creatures and Outcasts. This simple yet fun game has me coming back for more with many of the groups I have played it with loving the game. The game is a card shedding game where you want to have the least amount of cards at the end of each round you do this by playing cards into the centre of a higher value than the last one played. What I enjoy most about this game is the fact some of the cards have unique abilities that allow you to do a little extra on some of your turns offering strategy to your plays and the character cards that come up across the game shakes up the round they appear in.

No.3 Final Girl

Making it to number 3 on my list is the solo game Final Girl which is probably the best solo game I have ever played and at Halloween I enjoy playing it cooperatively with my wife where we play with us making decisions together on what the final girl will do. This game is a must have for those who enjoy horror films as all the box sets focus on certain tropes. In the game you will take on the role of a final girl in a horror movie trying to defeat or escape the evil villain may it be a monster, criminal or alien and save the day as well as the survivors. My favourite box set to play is Into the Void as every game I find a new way to try and defeat the alien and it is always great fun.

No.2 Arkham Horror Living Card Game

In number 2 is one of my all time favourite games, Arkham Horror Living Card Game. From the first time I played this game I really enjoyed the mystery and deck building this game had to offer. In the game you will take on the role of an investigator looking into mysterious goings on with each players investigator having unique abilities and a deck of cards representing their equipment and skills as they face the horrors of Cthulhu. Me and my wife enjoy this game so much as we like developing our characters across long sprawling campaigns and discovering the secrets within the game with each choice and decision you make feeling impactful for the end game scenario. It is also offers standalone scenarios which are great fun, which play most often at Arkham Nights events.

No.1 Clank! Catacombs

Last but by no means least is my favourite game to play on the night of Halloween, Clank! Catacombs. The Clank! games are probably one of my favourite games of all of time, combining dungeon delving and deck building in a beautiful blend of adventure. In this game you will explore the catacombs by flipping over tiles in search of treasure while you build up your deck of cards from the market to be able to do more on each of your turns. Once you have a treasure you must then dash toward the safe area before you get caught by the guardians of the loot so you can score points at the end of the game. This is my favourite game of this series as every dungeon feels different with the modular board it offers and you have to adapt your strategy for the cards that come out. I cannot wait to play this game this Halloween with the new expansion and discover what it has in store for us, wish us luck! Let us know in the comments what your favourite Halloween games are and which one you will be playing this spooky season?
