In this weeks article we are taking a look through some of our favourite games that we enjoy playing at 2 player or on a date night. Each of these games offer great strategic depth and replayability resulting in us playing them time and time again.
The first game on the list is the clever redesign of King of Tokyo, King of Tokyo Duel. This twist on the original has a fantastic tug of war mechanic that results in victory or loss which offers a nice contrast to the original game. Due to this it makes it highly replayable as you want to try and thwart your opponent or try out one of the other great characters to see how their unique ability will sway the game. I enjoy this game as it is so easy to learn and always offers a tense and fun game.
Next on my list is going to be no surprise to most, Lord of the Rings Duel for Middle Earth which is card draughting game based off of 7 Wonders Duel. This clever game has a variety of routes to victory and offers something new every game. Build up your forces, unite the nations or complete the quest for the ring. It is your choice which route you decide to take. This game is so enjoyable as there is a great amount of decision space as well as amazing artwork that is something to behold, it is a perfect game for anyone who enjoys Lord of the Rings.
Another fantastic game to play on a night in for two is DorfRomantik: The Board Game. This beautiful tile laying game has you trying to cooperatively accomplish challenges unlocking new components as you play offering you the joy of a legacy game while being fully resettable so you can play it again and again. This game has a very relaxed game play experience which makes it such a great game for a cosy night in and plays brilliantly at 2 players. I would highly recommend this version or DorfRomantik: Sakura if you are looking for a game that will make your night in a little more personal as it encourages great discussion between the players.
Lastly on my list of perfect games for Valentine's Day I have my all time favourite game Wingspan Asia. This two player variant of the original game Wingspan offers the great engine building and strategy of the original game with an interesting twist using the Duet Board. The addition of the additional board for two players really elevates the game making each choice that much more important. I really enjoy this game as every game I have played has played out differently and the duet board adds an element of abstract strategy that I love. If you and your partner enjoys strategic games and a bit of healthy competition I could not recommend this game enough.
