This beautiful game is inspired by the Bloemen Route in the Netherlands a stretch of land that during the late 19th century that was covered in windmills that over looked the colourful tulip farms.
The board game Windmill Valley has players taking on the role of tulip farmers and entrepeneurs at this time in history attempting to build and develop windmills, acquire new tulip bulbs from the market as well as obtaining hired help and lucrative contracts to give them a competitive edge. The game play of this strategy game uses a Rondel system which means on your turn you will rotate the wheels to select the action you wish to take on your turn. The game is played over a series of turns, in each players turn they will complete the following four steps in order, Floodgate Adjustment, Water Level Adjustment, Wheel Movement and then Perform Actions. In the Floodgate Adjustment phase you will be choosing how you are going to manipulate the water speed as you may want it going faster or slower to get the action you are looking for by opening and closing the floodgate, if the floodgate is at speed 2 or 3 you will then increase the water level in the Water Level Adjustment phase. After these two phases are done you will then rotate your action wheel in the Wheel Movement phase a number of steps equal to the current water speed once the action is chosen you then move on to the Perform Action phase of your turn. In the Perform Actions phase of your turn you will be resolving the actions selected on your action wheels these actions include enhancing your wheel, lowering the water level, building windmills and more. The game end is triggered once one player reaches the end of the Calendar track you then finish the turns of the players yet to go this round so each player has the same number of turns. You then move onto scoring and will gain points in the game for contracts, empty Windmill groups as well as complete rows and columns of patches on their farm board.
